English-born Ghanaian international Antoine Semenyo has revealed that choosing to represent the Black Stars was never a difficult decision despite being born and raised in England.

The 26-year-old forward, who is currently in Cardiff with the Black Stars squad preparing for the international friendly against Wales, explained that his Ghanaian roots always influenced his decision.

“My mum and dad are Ghana through and through. They never really mentioned anything about England,” he said.

“Obviously, living in England, you get the conversation of: ‘Oh, you should represent England’. But it was never a conversation I ever had, really,” he added.

Semenyo’s football journey has been filled with challenges after enduring unsuccessful trials with clubs such as Arsenal FC, Tottenham Hotspur FC, Chelsea FC, Fulham FC, Millwall FC and Crystal Palace FC before eventually settling at Bristol City FC.

The Ghanaian forward later earned moves to AFC Bournemouth and now Manchester City FC after an outstanding campaign in which he has registered 21 goals and six assists in all competitions this season.

Looking ahead to the World Cup, Semenyo insists Ghana are ready to compete against the best nations on the biggest stage.

“It will just feel normal. I just want to win and prove that we can compete with the top nations. Playing against my friends, I want to prove my point.”
