Ghanas newly appointed Black Stars head coach, Carlos Queiroz, is not earning the widely reported $100,000 monthly salary, sources close to the Ministry of Sports and Recreation have clarified.
The Ghana Football Association (GFA) officially unveiled the 73-year-old Portuguese tactician on Thursday, April 16, at the Alisa Hotel in Accra, naming him as the new head coach of the senior national team ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Queiroz, a veteran manager who has previously led Egypt, Iran and Portugal, has signed a short-term four-month contract.
He replaces Otto Addo, who was relieved of his duties in March following consecutive defeats to Austria and Germany.
While reports had suggested that the former Real Madrid manager would receive a $100,000 monthly salary, insiders have dismissed the claim as inaccurate.
Officials say the Sports Minister, Kofi Adams, is expected to address the issue publicly and provide clarity on the coachs actual remuneration.
Queiroz arrives with five members of his technical team and is expected to begin preparations with friendly matches against Mexico next month, followed by another international test against Wales on June 2 as part of Ghanas World Cup build-up.
The Black Stars will compete in Group L at the 2026 World Cup, hosted across the United States, Canada and Mexico, alongside England, Croatia and Panama.
Ghana open their campaign against Panama on June 17, before facing England on June 23 and Croatia on June 27.
After disappointing group-stage exits in both 2014 and 2022, expectations are high for a stronger performance this time, with Queiroz tasked with guiding the four-time African champions beyond the group stage for the first time in over a decade.
