Board Chairman of the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA), Mr Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, has described the Boankra Integrated Logistics Terminal (BILT), as a “game-changer” for Ghana’s economic landscape.
During a recent high-level inspection of the site in the Ejisu Constituency, the GHPA Board Chairman emphasised that the project is no longer just a goal, it is a necessity for national competitiveness.
Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, Board Chairman of the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA), led a joint delegation alongside the Ghana Shippers Authority to evaluate the site’s progress.
Mr. Asiedu Nketiah argued that Ghana must evolve beyond traditional economic models to thrive in a modern global market.
He highlighted several key benefits of the terminal which include, decongestion, accessibility and efficiency.
Explaining that moving cargo processing inland will significantly ease the pressure on coastal seaports, bringing maritime services to the Ashanti Region will benefit businesses in middle and northern parts of Ghana, as well as landlocked neighbours.

This, according to him, would streamline logistics which would automatically reduce the time and cost of transporting goods across the sub-region.
Project Milestones & Current Progress
The delegation inspected critical infrastructure, including the container terminal and the container freight station.
While expressing satisfaction with the quality of work executed by Justmoh Construction Limited, Nketiah remained focused on the finish line.
“The ultimate goal is completion,” Nketiah noted. “The benefits of this project can only be realised when it is fully functional.”
Key Stakeholder Perspectives
Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, GPHA Chairman said the port is a “game-changer” that shifts how Ghana manages trade.
Ransford Edward Gyampo, CEO, Ghana Shippers Authority said the project is essential for positioning Ghana as a premier West African transit hub.
Dr. Justice Amoh CEO, Justmoh Construction said more funding is required immediately to maintain momentum and meet timelines.

Funding and Completion
Despite the optimism surrounding the project’s potential to create jobs and stimulate the logistics sector, a significant hurdle remains: capital.
Dr. Justice Amoh issued a candid appeal for further government support, noting that timely financial injections are required to scale up operations.
With sustained funding, the Boankra Inland Port is poised to become the backbone of Ghana’s inland trade infrastructure, cementing the country’s role as a regional economic growth.
The project consultant, Dr John Bernard Koranteng Yorke also provided a detailed update on the current state of the project, outlining significant progress made so far.
He explained that key phases of the project have reached advanced stages, with major structural works substantially completed and ongoing installations steadily progressing according to revised timelines.
According to him, the technical team has maintained consistent supervision to ensure that all works meet the required engineering and safety standards.
He further noted that despite earlier delays encountered due to logistical and funding challenges, the project has now gained steady momentum.
Dr Yorke emphasised that coordinated efforts between contractors, consultants, and stakeholders have helped resolve several bottlenecks that previously slowed down implementation.
He added that materials procurement and site coordination have improved significantly, contributing to faster execution of pending tasks.
