The Managing Director of Saka Homes, Mr. Kwadjo Saka Addo Mensah, has committed GH¢18 million towards the construction of a 250-bed dormitory block for Achimota School under a partnership arrangement with the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund).
The announcement was made during an event held at the GETFund Headquarters in East Legon on Friday, May 29, 2026.
Mr. Addo Mensah made the announcement at an event at GETFund’s headquarters in East Legon on Friday, May 29, 2026. Describing himself as a philanthropist dedicated to education and social causes, he said the project is a long‑held ambition to give back to his alma mater.
“I like to give for the good of humanity. This is an initiative that has been on my heart for a long time,” he said.
According to him, the current GETFund initiative, which offers tax credits to private individuals and companies who support educational infrastructure projects, played a key role in making the project possible.
He explained that under the arrangement, corporate entities and philanthropists who partner with GETFund on infrastructure development are able to receive tax reliefs through the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA).
“We are basically here today to put it out there that this opportunity exists. If you liaise with GETFund, you can get some tax reliefs for supporting initiatives like this,” he said.
Mr. Addo Mensah encouraged other business leaders and financially capable individuals to take advantage of the initiative to support educational development across the country.
“I encourage other businesses and people like me who have funds and are willing to support GETFund to engage with them because if you do this, they will get you some relief from GRA,” he added.
Speaking on why he chose Achimota School for the intervention, the Saka Homes MD said his deep emotional attachment to the school motivated the gesture.
“I chose Achimota School because it is my alma mater. Five years ago, I built a 48-bed ward and donated it to the school. It has always been my desire that I will do something else for the school,” he noted.
The planned 250-bed dormitory block is expected to help ease accommodation challenges in the school while improving living conditions for students.
The initiative also highlights growing collaboration between the private sector and government institutions in addressing infrastructure deficits within Ghana’s educational sector.
