During the Auto China 2026, Nissan Motor Co., Ltd launched two new NEV SUV concept cars, which was a major milestone of Nissan’s rapid expansion. Also, it showed that China is one of the main markets for Nissan along with being a centre for global innovation and exporting to facilitate long-term business growth.

“Under our vision, China is not only a highly competitive domestic market but also a centre for innovation, enabling us to create new value and experience for our customers in China and beyond. Our advanced technology must be meaningful for its purpose and provide direct customer experience with a safer, easier and smarter form of mobility. This is where China comes into play,” Ivan Espinosa, President & CEO said.

Two new SUV concepts debut globally

Nissan showed two NEV SUV concept cars demonstrating its rapid NEV expansion in China.

The Urban SUV PHEV Concept car is targeted at young customers in China, and its design is inspired by philosophy of the NX8 and future Nissan SUV family.

The Terrano PHEV Concept marks the return of this iconic nameplate, which combines the latest plug-in hybrid technology and Nissan’s long off-road tradition. It provides the best balance of outdoor adventures and urban mobility.

The production versions of both new concept cars will be launched in about one year. Additionally, Nissan will introduce three other NEV models in China during one year to expand the NEV line-up and transform the brand.

Role of China under Nissan’s new vision

Nissan announced its new vision called “Mobility Intelligence for Everyday Life”. In terms of this vision, there are two critical roles of China for Nissan among three lead markets – Japan and the USA.

On the one hand, China is a highly competitive market providing excellent opportunities to deliver value for customers in China. On the other hand, it can act as a global innovation and exporting centre using innovations and speed from China to compete globally.

Starting from 2025, Nissan significantly accelerated its NEV product offensive in China by introducing the N7, Frontier Pro PHEV, N6, and NX8 models. By integrating Nissan’s global standards, Chinese speed, and innovative technologies, these NEV cars gained a very good reputation among Chinese buyers.

Also, the N7 will be exported to Latin America and ASEAN countries, while Frontier Pro will be exported to Latin America, ASEAN, and the Middle East. The NX8 model and the Terrano PHEV Concept car will be introduced in selected international markets. The target of Nissan is to reach annual sales of one million cars in China until fiscal year 2030.
