Tennis legend Serena Williams and her husband, Alexis Ohanian, welcomed their second child, a daughter named Adira River Ohanian, on Tuesday.

The couple announced the news on social media, with Williams sharing a video on TikTok of herself, Ohanian, and their four-year-old daughter, Olympia, embracing the newborn.

“Welcome my beautiful angel,” Williams wrote in the caption.

Ohanian also shared a message on Twitter, writing, “I’m grateful to report our house is teeming with love: a happy and healthy newborn girl and a happy and healthy mama. Feeling grateful.”

The birth of Adira comes just over a year after Williams announced her pregnancy at the Met Gala in May. The 23-time Grand Slam champion has said that she is “evolving away” from tennis after last year’s U.S. Open, and it is now highly unlikely that she will return to competitive play.

However, Williams has said that she is still committed to her work off the court, including her foundation, which helps to empower girls and women.

“I’m excited to embark on this new journey of motherhood,” Williams said in a statement. “I’m grateful for the support of my family and friends, and I can’t wait to see what the future holds for our little family.”

Adira’s name is of Hebrew origin and means “strong,” “brave,” and “beautiful.” It is a fitting name for the daughter of two of the most accomplished athletes in the world.

We wish Serena, Alexis, and Olympia all the best as they welcome Adira into their family.
