Provisional results from the 17 centres where the New Patriotic Party (NPP) held its Super Delegates Congress, clearly show that Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has taken a very commanding lead.

961 delegates had the privilege to partake in the special exercise with each region having a specific number of delegates.

The specially selected delegates is a representation of key stakeholders of the party, namely constituency, regional, MPs, diaspora and national level leaders of the party.

Accounts of collated figures from Peacefm Reporters across the regions indicate that Dr Bawumia polled more votes than all the other aspirants; as expected though. He garnered 629 votes representing 67.9% of the valid votes cast.

Interestingly, his closest challenger has turned out to be Kennedy Agyapong, who appears to have beaten Mr Alan Kyerematen to the second position.

The maverick politician secured 132 of the Super Delegates’ votes, representing 14.3%, while Alan Cash polled 95 votes (10.3%).

Dr Afriyie Akoto placed fourth with 40votes, a percentage of 4.3 of valid votes cast.

Finally, two aspirants – Francis Addai Nimoh and Boakye Agyarko Kyeremateng – garnered same number of votes; 9, and thus qualify for the November 4th elections.

Delegates voted at 17 centers; 1 in each region.

The Greater Accra Region however had two centers. Additionally, some National Executives, Diasporan members among others also partook in the voting exercise to make a total vote of 961.

Saturday’s exercise was a simple mission of whittling down the number of contestants from 10 to 5, in accordance with the ruling party’s Constitution.

The Special Delegates Conference, was also a platform through which a clear indication of who-is-who in the contest; the pretenders, the empty noise makers, the saboteurs, the realists and the man of the people, was laid bare!
