Chiefs and elders of Agona Swedru as well as the planning committee of this year’s Akwambo Festival have debunked claims by some “unscrupulous” individuals that the celebration of this year’s festival has been postponed, for their parochial interest.
Addressing a press conference to debunk the rumour, the Chairman of the planning committee, Nana Kwetu who is also the Oguaaman Ebusuapanin of the town noted that the festival is coming on in August as scheduled, and has therefore called on indigenes of the town, both home and abroad to treat the rumour with the highest contempt that it deserves.
According to him, they have already informed the Paramount Chief of the Agona Nyakrom Traditional Area, Nana Nyarkoh Eku X about the planned celebration of the festival. He has, in turn, offered his support to the Nimfahen of Agona Swedru, Nana Kweku Esieni V, who is currently serving as the Regent following the demise of the late Chief of the town, Nana Asiedu Botwe II, to ensure the successful celebration of the festival.
According to Ebusuapanin Nana Kwetu, the committee has given the police prior notice about the intended celebration of the festival.
The press conference was attended by some traditional rulers including the Chief of Otabilkrom who is also the Dabewhen of the Agona Nyakrom Traditional Area, Nana Attack Yeboah VII, the chief linguist of the town as well as members of the festival’s planning committee.
