Ghana Football Association President Kurt Okraku has praised the Black Stars for their resilience at the 2026 FIFA World Cup despite the team’s Round of 32 exit.

Ghana’s campaign came to an end after a narrow 1-0 defeat to the South Americans, having finished third in Group L with four points from a win over Panama, a draw against England and a defeat to Croatia.

The Black Stars reached the knockout stage for the first time since the 2010 World Cup.

In a statement released on the Ghana Football Association’s official website, Okraku acknowledged the disappointment of the early exit but commended the players and technical team for their commitment throughout the tournament.

“Our journey ended at the Round of 32 of the tournament, and as disappointing as this is for all of us, we are immensely proud of the team for the courage and passion they portrayed in representing the country,” he said.

The GFA President also noted that many had written off Ghana before the tournament but the Black Stars exceeded expectations by progressing from a difficult group.

“Before the start of the 2026 World Cup, many doubted the team’s ability to compete at this global stage. Yet, the Black Stars responded by qualifying from a difficult group into the Round of 32. That resilience should make every Ghanaian and our supporters proud,” he added.

Looking ahead, Okraku believes the experience gained in the United States will benefit the national team in future competitions.

“Football is a journey of both triumph and learning. Every challenge strengthens our resolve, and every experience prepares us for future opportunities. The technical team and players have learned invaluable lessons from this 2026 World Cup campaign that will make the Black Stars stronger to compete for future laurels,” he concluded.

The team will now turn its attention to the upcoming FIFA World Cup qualifiers and the next Africa Cup of Nations as they aim to build on the progress made in North America.
