The Minister for Trade, Agribusiness and Industry, Hon. Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare, has held discussions with some Ministers from Niger, Burkina Faso and Mali who are members of the Alliance of Sahel States (AES), on strengthening trade and economic cooperation between Ghana and the three countries.
The meeting held on the sidelines of the 18th SIAO 2026 underway in ouagadougou Burkina Faso focused on the need to deepen economic relations, address barriers to trade, and explore practical ways of enhancing cooperation in areas of mutual interest.
Hon. Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare called for the adoption of a forward-looking approach to regional economic integration, with particular emphasis on how each country could contribute to shared development objectives through financing, resource mobilisation and strategic partnerships.
The Ministers including Milian Minister for Crafts Hon. Mamou Daffe, and Burkina Faso Minister for Industry, Commence and Craft Hon. Serge Gnaidem PODA recognised that while challenges, including time constraints and barriers to cooperation, may exist, sustained engagement and collective action would be essential to overcoming them.
Hon. Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare further indicated that” Non-Tariffs barriers is a challenge to us, so let’s work on our standards and develop bilateral relations to make trade in the sub-region and Africa stronger”.
The Hon. Minister emphasised the need to translate discussions and commitments into tangible outcomes that would deliver meaningful economic benefits to their respective countries.
