The family of Tupac Shakur has filed a wrongful death lawsuit in Los Angeles, nearly three decades after the rapper’s fatal shooting.

The civil suit names Duane ‘Keefe D’ Davis as the primary defendant, alongside several unnamed co-conspirators, and seeks unspecified damages.

Filed at the Los Angeles Superior Court by Tupac’s stepbrother Maurice Shakur, also known as Mopreme, the complaint alleges a “complex conspiracy” behind the 1996 killing. It argues that recent developments have provided new insight into individuals who may have been involved.

The filing points to material from the Netflix documentary Sean Combs: The Reckoning and transcripts from grand jury proceedings in Davis’s criminal case as key sources of fresh leads. According to Maurice Shakur, these have helped connect long-standing gaps in the investigation, suggesting that others involved have yet to be identified or held accountable.

Davis, the only person ever charged in connection with Tupac’s death, has pleaded not guilty and is due to stand trial in August. The rapper was shot in a drive-by attack in Las Vegas in September 1996 and died six days later at the age of 25, after selling millions of records and becoming one of hip-hop’s most influential figures.
