The Ministry of Health has debunked claims that there have been deaths as a result of the shortage of vaccines for measles in the country.
Speaking at a media briefing in Accra, the Minister of Health, Kwaku Agyeman Manu, said despite the recently recorded spikes in measles cases, no death has been recorded and it has been the case since 2003.
The Minister noted that despite the global challenge of vaccine shortage, it is working closely with UNICEF to secure adequate stock within the next few weeks.
The ministry of health has been concerned about the shortage of some childhood vaccines and their effect on the vaccination program in the country.
The minister, Kwaku Agyemang Manu said there has been a vaccine shortage in the country since the last quarter of 2022. He mentioned the vaccines in short supply as BCG, Measles-Rubella, and polio vaccines which are nationwide.
He said the recent shortage in vaccines is attributed to the symptomatic steadfast global decline in measles vaccination since the beginning of the Covid 19 pandemic.
