At the Church of Christ Abeka 2 Congregation polling station in the Okaikoi North Constituency in the Greater Accra Region, voting delayed as the EC officials did not arrive early and the voters’ registers were not ready.
As of 7:15, the voters’ registers were unavailable. No voters were present between 7:30 a.m. and 8:00 a.m., and there were no tables prepared for the registration. The situation appeared disorganised, and it wasn’t until 8:30 a.m. that the EC officials started arriving.
The primary complaint was the absence of tables for the officials to work on. There were no voters forming queues at 7:00 a.m., and voters were unwilling to form queues.
Regarding security, two Police officers were present at the Church of Christ Abeka 2 Polling Station, and they were not settled by 7:00 a.m. While Polling Agents were available, voters did not turn up between 7:00 a.m. and 8:30 a.m. Some polling agents expressed dissatisfaction with the EC for not arriving on time, leading to a deviation from the scheduled voting time.
Justice Ohene, the Polling Agent for the Wuoyeman Electoral Area, expressed dissatisfaction with the delay.
“We were supposed to start voting around 7:00 am, but we find ourselves in a situation where the ballot boxes are not yet in and the EC officials themselves are absent. We anticipate a high voter turnout, as people usually don’t turn out much for district elections.”
Kingsley, another Polling Agent for the Wuoyeman Electoral Area, confirmed the absence of tables for voters but expressed hope for a good voter turnout.
