Annor Walker has said the Black Galaxies’ poor performance at the 2022 African Nations Championships (CHAN) is the reason why no Ghana Premier League players were included in the latest Black Stars squad for the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Angola later this month.

The Black Galaxies suggested that Black Stars coach Chris Hughton would have included some local league players had the Black Galaxies won the tournament.

“If we had won the trophy, definitely he would have asked or would have contacted the technical team so we recommend one or two players to the senior national team,” he said on Peace FM.

Walker also suggested that Hughton may not know much about the locally-based players, especially those who were part of the CHAN team.

The absence of local players from the Black Stars squad is a setback for the league, which had two players called up for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

Ghana will play Angola at the Baba Yara Stadium on March 24, before travelling away for the return leg four days later.

The 25 players invited by Hughton are expected to arrive this weekend to begin preparations for the two games, which could secure qualification to next year’s tournament in Ivory Coast if the Black Stars emerge victorious.
