Director General of National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), Maj. Rtd. Dr Joseph Bikanyi Kuyon has said the organization is working to minimize flood situations during this year’s rainy season.
He told Keminni Amanor, Host of TV3’s Hot Issues on Sunday, April 13, 2025 that NADMO has already commenced a roadmap and preparedness plan to minimize the impact of flooding this year.
Dr. Kuyon noted that NADMO is currently coordinating with other agencies like the Ghana Armed Forces, the Ghana National Fire service, the Electricity Company of Ghana to ensure timely and swift response to possible flood situations.
“I trust our preparedness but the situation is every year comes with its development. For instance, if you have been told that there will be more rains than usual, then what you have experienced last year or two will not apply this year. All we have to do is to activate all the preparedness plan we have.
“Like I’ve said we dredge, we desilt, we make sure that machines are put ready, we make sure that staff are prepared and conscientize to react swiftly, we also make sure that our inter-agency working group are coordinated.
“We also make sure that our inter-agency working group are coordinated to ensure that reaction time is swift,” he stated.
He added: “Work is ongoing to ensure that these things we work to prevent it as much as possible and if it does happen, it should be on smaller scale. We are working as an organization and not waiting for it to happen before we act.”
