Management of Dancehall artiste, Stonebwoy has refuted claim by the National Sports Authority (NSA) that the artiste paid an amount of GH₵70,000 for using the Accra sports stadium for an event.
Earlier on February 5, the Director General of the NSA, Prof. Peter Twumasi told the Public Accounts Committee of Parliament that Stonebwoy paid GH₵70,000 to secure the Accra sports stadium for his 5th Dimension Concert in December 2023.
However, contrary to the account by Prof. Peter Twumasi, Manager of Stonebwoy, Chief Abiola said the claim by the NSA is inaccurate.
“To be very honest with you, these are contractual matters and usually I wouldn’t want to engage in a public space but the Public Accounts Committee is a very serious committee that it got before the committee so I wouldn’t want to be here on radio to state otherwise.
“But what I can tell you clearly is that I was delegated by Stonebwoy to lead the charge in terms of doing the negotiations and payment of the stadium. I can also tell you for a fact that yes we paid more than GH₵70,000 for the stadium but I mean I am just watching the issues unfold so I wouldn’t want to disclose into detail for now. I hope you bear with me,” he said in an interview on Hitz FM, February 6.
The recent development has come as a shock to many particularly when concerns have been raised as to why the stadium is being rented out for events due to the deteriorating risk involved.
The NSA has been appearing before the Public Accounts Committee this week and has received severe backlash from Ghanaians relating to the accounts given by the Director-General Prof. Peter Twumasi.
In December last year, the NSA announced the closure of the Accra sports stadium for footballing activities but rented it out for events.
When questioned by the Public Accounts Committee on such a decision, Prof. Twumasi defended by saying “before we shifted our sporting activities to other stadia, we made mention of this to all stakeholders that in December, a particular period will be used for other events which are not sporting and the revenue for it should be able to recover entirely everything.”
