Ghana international Emmanuel Gyasi has expressed his joy after helping Empoli to upset AS Roma in the Italian Serie A on Sunday.
The 30-year-old Ghanaian attacker lasted the entire duration as his outfit inflicted a 2-1 away win over Roma in the week 2 clash.
Gyasi registered his name on the scoresheet to propel his outfit secure victory over Roma Stadio Olimpico.
The former Black Stars forward opened the scoring for Empoli on the stroke of halftime, capitalizing on a flick from Colombo following a Giuseppe Pezzella cross. The visitors went to the halftime break with the advantage.
Italy international Lorenzo Colombo fired home the second goal to double the advantage for Empoli after converting from the spot.
Despite a late resurgence from AS Roma, with Eldor Shomurodov scoring a header in the 80th minute, Empoli held on for a memorable win.
“We prepared the game well and we won against a great team,” said Gyasi after the match.
“The coach had studied the goal situation well during the week, it was a plan: attack at the far post. In fact, I tried at 0-0 but I was already thinking about how to celebrate, then it went well. We have to continue like this,” he added.
Gyasi has featured in all two games for the Empoli, scoring one goal in the process. He will be hoping to maintain his fine form throughout the season.
