Black Stars

Minister for Sports and Recreation Kofi Iddie Adams has moved to calm concerns over potential financial distractions within the national team camp, insisting that government remains fully committed to keeping players focused ahead of Ghanas next assignment at the FIFA World Cup.

Ghanas Black Stars have reached the Round of 32 for the first time since 2010, setting up a knockout tie against Colombia after a group-stage campaign that included a win over Panama, a goalless draw with England, and a defeat to Croatia.

Speaking in an interview with Sporty FM, Adams said the state had fulfilled its obligations and was working to ensure morale remains high as the team pursues a deep run in the tournament.

He added that discussions were ongoing over a qualification bonus package, though it is yet to be formally presented to the players.

The Black Stars are very highly motivated. Government has done its bit,” he said.”We have a qualification bonus for the next stage to give them. Weve not offered that yet, but its being worked on.”I dont want anything financial to derail them, Adams added.

Should Ghana advance, they could face either Algeria or Switzerland in the Round of 16.

The team is expected to relocate to Kansas City on Wednesday as preparations intensify for the knockout fixture scheduled for Saturday, July 4.
