Jordan Ayew

Ghana captain Jordan Ayew says the Black Stars are fully prepared for their 2026 FIFA World Cup Round of 32 showdown against Colombia, insisting the team has grown in confidence and is determined to keep its campaign alive.

The four-time African champions take on the unbeaten South Americans on Saturday, July 4, at Kansas City Stadium after progressing from Group L in third place. Colombia, meanwhile, topped Group K without suffering a defeat and head into the knockout clash as one of the tournament’s in-form sides.

Speaking at his pre-match press conference, Ayew acknowledged the magnitude of the fixture but expressed confidence in Ghana’s ability to deliver when it matters most.

“It’ll be a big game, and we’re ready. We’ve been growing in the tournament,” Ayew said, “and we want to put on a show, make sure we win. That’s the most important thing for us.”

The 34-year-old also stressed the importance of maintaining the team’s positive momentum while continuing to learn from previous performances.

“It’s a World Cup, and you always want to win and keep the winning streak and the positivity going. We’re giving it our best shot, and learning from our mistakes and experience,” the former Leicester City forward added.

Ghana have reached the World Cup knockout stage for the first time since their memorable run at the 2010 tournament in South Africa, where they came within a penalty shootout of becoming the first African nation to reach the semi-finals.

With another opportunity to make history, Carlos Queiroz’s side will be aiming to extend their impressive run when they face Colombia in a place in the Round of 16. Kick-off is scheduled for 01:30 GMT.
