Barcelona coach Xavi Hernandez expressed optimism about the potential re-signing of Lionel Messi following the Argentine’s departure from PSG.
The speculation intensified after Messi’s father was spotted visiting Barcelona president Joan Laporta on Monday.
Following Barcelona’s friendly victory against Vissel Kobe, Xavi commented on the situation, stating that it is now in the hands of the president and Messi’s father.
Xavi said: “The situation is in the hands of the president and Leo’s father, therefore, we’ll see, we’ll see how it ends, but in the end, Leo has the upper hand.”
On the news of approval from LaLiga to the financial feasibility plan of Barcelona, Xavi added, “We are happy, for the moment we have the OK to the feasibility plan of the LaLiga and now, to get going, get down to work and strengthen ourselves, which we need.”
Despite reports of a lucrative offer from Saudi club Al Hilal, it is believed that Messi is still awaiting Barcelona’s contract proposal.
The Saudi side have reportedly offered Messi a staggering sum of $1.9 billion over a two-year period. However, Messi’s loyalty to Barcelona seems to be prevailing over financial temptations.
