Andre Ayew has paid tribute to Asamoah Gyan, describing him as a “true warrior” who served his nation with “immense pride and passion.”
Ayew, who played alongside Gyan for 12 years in the Ghana national team, said that Gyan’s presence on the pitch will be greatly missed in the beautiful game.
“It was an absolute honour to have played 12 years with you in the national team,” Ayew wrote on Instagram. “This beautiful game will miss you on the pitch. I wish you all the best in your retirement. You are a legend.”
Gyan, who retired from international football on Tuesday, is Ghana’s all-time leading scorer with 51 goals. He is also the only African player to have scored at the World Cup on three occasions.
Ayew said that Gyan was a “true inspiration” to him and to many others.
“You are a true inspiration to me and to many others,” Ayew said. “You showed us all what it means to be a warrior on the pitch and to represent your country with pride. I will never forget our time together on the national team.”
Gyan’s retirement is a significant loss for Ghanaian football, but his legacy will live on for many years to come. He is a true legend of the game.
