Iconic Ghanaian actor and politician John Dumelo has revealed that his fellow actor Yvonne Nelson turned down an offer to contest him in the Ayawaso West Wuogon Constituency on the ticket of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
Dumelo said that Nelson told him about the approach and her decision not to contest, citing their close friendship.
“If you’ve been told to contest, whoever is telling you to contest will provide you with the support you need,” Dumelo said in an interview with Accra-based Hitz FM.
“So I think she put our friendship there and said, ‘John is my friend and I cannot do that.’ I respect her for that.”
Dumelo was the National Democratic Congress’ Parliamentary Candidate for Ayawaso West Wuogon in the 2020 election. He gave the sitting Member of Parliament, Lydia Alhassan, a run for her money, but ultimately lost the election.
John Dumelo and Yvonne Nelson have been friends for many years. They have worked together on several projects.
