In a proactive effort to ensure peace and stability as Ghana approaches the 2024 elections, the Universal Friendship Organization (UFO) organized a peace walk.
The event, which attracted citizens from all walks of life, was a call to action for Ghanaians to prioritize harmony before, during, and after the elections.
Speaking at the event, UFO Executive Director Samuel Adobah underscored the importance of a peaceful election process. “This election is one of the most critical in our history, and we must work together to ensure that peace prevails,” Adobah said.
He reminded Ghanaians that elections are a regular part of the country’s democratic calendar and should be treated as a celebration of democracy rather than a time for division. “Just as we celebrate Christmas, let us embrace this election season as a time of unity and peace.”
Adobah also directed a special message to the youth, urging them to be mindful of how they engage with the political process. “Politicians may try to use the youth for their gain,” he warned. “But I urge you not to be swayed. The future is yours, and it is bright if you choose the path of peace.”
UFO Vice President Johnson Adu echoed Adobah’s call for national unity, addressing both the government and the citizens of Ghana. “To the government in power and all citizens, let peace reign,” Adu stated. “Ghana belongs to all of us, and it is our collective responsibility to ensure that we preserve the peace.”
He stressed that the country’s future prosperity depends on maintaining a stable and peaceful environment throughout the election process. Adu led the crowd in a chant of “We want peace” as a symbolic gesture of unity and commitment to peaceful elections.
The peace walk also provided an opportunity for the UFO to recognize individuals who have demonstrated outstanding leadership in the promotion of peace.
His Royal Highness Abdul Salam Yussif II and His Eminence Adamu Mohammed were honored for their unwavering commitment to peace, development, and sustainable progress in Ghana. Yussif II, who represents Ghana for the World Peace Trust, delivered a powerful message highlighting the global importance of Ghana’s stability.
“Peace in Ghana means peace for Africa and the world,” Yussif II said. “Our actions here have a far-reaching impact. We must ensure that our concerns are addressed peacefully and responsibly.”
Yussif II also urged corporate sponsors to continue supporting peace-focused initiatives, thanking those who had already contributed. “Every company has a role to play in promoting peace. By supporting organizations like UFO, you are contributing to the stability of our nation,” he emphasized.
His Eminence Adamu Mohammed, also commended the UFO for its ongoing efforts to foster peace and urged all Ghanaians to join hands in ensuring that the upcoming election remains peaceful. “The election is not just an event; it is an opportunity to reaffirm our commitment to a peaceful and prosperous Ghana,” he said.
The event, which began at Obra Spot Circle and concluded peacefully at Independence Square, sought to unite Ghanaians in a commitment to peaceful elections during this critical period.
With leaders and citizens alike pledging to uphold peace, the event marked a strong statement that Ghana’s future is best secured through collective efforts for peace and stability.
