The news of veteran Ghanaian actor William Addo popularly known as Akpatse going blind sent the entertainment industry into a state of shock in 2019.

The veteran actor went blind after having two surgeries in 2016 in an attempt to save his eyes from glaucoma and cataracts.

He sadly indicated that he used to spend GH¢500 on medication each month when the condition surfaced years ago.

Life became extremely unbearable after going blind and raising money became very difficult so he resorted to appealing for assistance.

The Ghana Actors Guild is an umbrella organisation that is supposed to see to the welfare of individuals in the movie industry.

Unfortunately, in recent times, the Actors Guild has come under serious attacks by members and stakeholders in the movie industry, calling the competence of the leaders into question.

In an exclusive interview with GhanaWeekend, William Addo, responding to a query about the Ghana Actors Guild’s support, made a startling revelation: “I never hear from them.”

According to the veteran actor,” There is a feud in the Guild so I don’t hear from them. It is sad… For now, I have gone blind totally…I can’t see at all… It is my son who has been helping me.”

William Addo shot to fame through the popular TV Theatre series on GTV and has starred in numerous Ghanaian movies.

The legendary actor studied at the University of Ghana’s School of Performing Arts and was retained as a teaching assistant at the school after he graduated.

After completing his master’s studies abroad on scholarship, he returned to the institution as a lecturer in charge of acting.

Subsequently, he was transferred to the National Theatre, where he oversaw concert party productions.
