Aduana Stars increased the gap between themselves and fellow title rivals Hearts of Oak after beating them 2-0 at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
After a goalless first half, Isaac Mintah struck twice in the 47th and 64th minute to ensure that Aduana Stars grabbed all three points to ground themselves in pole position for the jackpot.
Hearts were hoping to build on their victory over Berekum Chelsea last weekend but the Ogya boys were really on fire from the blast of the whistle to the end of proceedings.
Having now bagged 35 points, Aduana FC stay on top with seven more points than Hearts of Oak who have dropped to fourth place. Hearts, however, have the same points as Asante Kotoko who failed to get a win away at Nsoatre on Saturday.
Elsewhere, Bechem United climbed to second place with a 3-0 victory over a struggling Great Olympics side who are yet to get a win in their last four matches.
Abdul Karim scored his first goal of the season in the 26th minute before Hafiz Konkoni added two more to cement the victory for the Hunters.
Bechem now have 30 points and are above both Kotoko and Hearts on the table.
King Faisal failed to capitalise on Legon Cities’ loss to move away from the relegation zone when they lost 1-0 to Berekum Chelsea.
Dreams FC achieved a slim win over Bibiani God Stars at Dawu Park thanks to Agyenim Boateng’s goal while Samartex handed Real Tamale United back-to-back defeats with a 3-0 victory.
Tamale City also got a late win over Karela United to move closer to King Faisal. The Tamale-based side are now two points away from the relegation zone.
