President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo is expected to commission the Cardinal Namdini Mining project, which is the biggest gold mining company in the northern part of the country, in the first week of November, 2024.

This development was made public by the Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Samuel A. Jinapor during his tour of the company on Thursday, October 24, 2024.

Samuel A. Jinapor disclosed to journalists that Cardinal Namdini Mining Ltd, located in the Talensi District of the Upper East Region, will not only become the third-largest mining company in the country but also one of the giants on the entire African continent.

The Minister believes that it will further enhance Ghana’s reputation as one of the leading gold-producing countries in the world.

“Beyond the significant economic contributions that the company will make to the country, the employment opportunities and developmental projects which the Talensi area will witness are further reasons why I am enthused about this project,” Mr Jinapor said.

He commended the Management and staff of the company for the consistency exhibited since the commencement of the project and praised officials of his Ministry as well as the Minerals Commission for the diverse roles they played in setting up the company.

Mr Samuel Jinapor

“This is the first large-scale gold mine in the North, which is really historic. In the first week of November, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo will commission this mine and pour the first gold here at the Cardinal Namdini project. It is going to be the third-largest mine in our country and one of the largest mines in Africa.

“It is going to further consolidate Ghana’s status as a leading producer of gold in the world. It will also strengthen Ghana’s status as the mining hub of Africa where all mining-related activities take place. This is the first greenfield gold mine project for almost a decade. It was built from scratch and I’m here to see the progress of work. This is momentous and exciting.

“It is a big project which is going to contribute hugely to the national economy of our country. I want to thank the leadership of the company, the Ministry, the Minerals Commission led by Mr. Martin Ayisi, and all those who have contributed to get this project here,” he said.

Detailing features of the project, Mr. Steve Ofori, Project Manager at Cardinal Namdini Mining, disclosed that the company has invested in world-class and modern mining equipment that will ensure it undertakes its activities in line with environmental and safety protocols.

He disclosed that the company has received approvals from all relevant regulators, including the Environmental Protection Agency.

Prior to visiting the site of the mining firm, Mr Jinapor and his delegation from the Ministry and Minerals Commission paid a courtesy call on the Paramount Chief of the Talensi Traditional Area, Kugbilsong Nanlebeglang.

On his part, the Paramount Chief of the Talensi Traditional Area, Kugbilsong Nanlebeglang, described the establishment of the mining firm as a game-changer for the area and the country.

Kugbilsong Nanlebeglang expressed the belief that the company will fulfill its Corporate Social Responsibility agreement and also mine in a way that does not impact the environment negatively.

He is hopeful that the youth of the area will enjoy massive employment opportunities from the company and that the area will witness significant development.
