In a move to strengthen support ahead of the upcoming elections, Mr. Johnson Asiedu Nketia, the National Chairman of the NDC visited the North East Region on November 21, 2024, focusing on the Chereponi constituency.
His visit served as a strategic outreach effort to express gratitude to loyal supporters and unveil a vision for community development, despite the NPP’s entrenched dominance in the area.
During his visit to the Garinkuka community, Mr. Asiedu Nketia highlighted the long-standing allegiance of the residents, who have consistently backed the NDC since 1992.
He extended heartfelt thanks to the community, assuring them that if the NDC returns to power, they will prioritize critical infrastructure and services, including the establishment of a technical training institute, a hospital, improved water supply, and a market. This commitment reflects the party’s dedication to addressing the needs and aspirations of the constituents.
In a candid address, Mr. Asiedu Nketia also tackled the prevailing political atmosphere, urging the people of the North East Region to remain discerning amid the elaborate displays at the NPP flagbearer Dr. Bawumia’s rallies. He accused the NPP of employing deceptive tactics, such as transporting supporters in over ten buses to create the illusion of overwhelming support, a maneuver he believes aims to mislead the public.
Furthermore, Mr. Asiedu Nketia implored the electorate to critically assess their choices in the upcoming elections. He advised them against voting for their brother from the NPP, positing that his ability to address the urgent challenges facing Ghanaians is significantly eclipsed by the realities on the ground. This message resonates deeply in a region where the NPP currently holds four out of six parliamentary seats, while the NDC claims two.
With just weeks to the general election, both parties are intensifying their campaigns, vying for every available seat. Mr. Asiedu’s visit stands as a pivotal moment for the NDC as they seek to solidify their support in a region traditionally dominated by the NPP, igniting the hopes of their constituents for a brighter future. As the political landscape shifts, the stakes have never been higher for both parties in this crucial battleground region.
