The Confederation of African Football (CAF have declared that the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) will be hosted by Morocco.

The Northern African side won the bid to host the tournament beating competition from Algeria, Morocco, Nigeria and Benin and Zambia who had all expressed their zeal to host the 35th edition of the competition.

The hosting rights for the 2025 AFCON were originally awarded to Guinea. However, last year, CAF President Dr. Patrice Motsepe announced that Guinea had been disqualified from hosting the 2025 edition due to insufficient progress and delays in the preparations.

Consequently, a new process was re-opened for a replacement host bidder.

The new hosts have finally been revealed on Wednesday, September 27, 2023 giving Morocco a little over one year to prepare adequately for the tournament.

Morocco have hosted a number of high-profile international tournaments in recent times including the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in 2022 as well as the upcoming edition in 2024.

They have also hosted the FIFA Club World Cup and the U-2023 Africa Cup of Nations recently.

Additionally, 2027 edition of the AFCON will also be co-hosted by  Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania
