Clubs used to chase us, but that’s not the case anymore – Former Asante Kotoko striker Eric Bekoe

Call us

Former Asante Kotoko striker Eric Bekoe has opened up about how the Ghana Premier League has changed since his playing days, noting a sharp contrast between the past and the present.Bekoe explained that back then, top-performing players didnt need agents to land good deals clubs came after them directly. Today, however, it’s often managers and agents who actively shop their players around. He emphasized that performance used to speak for itself and influence contract negotiations.Bekoe revealed he once had offers from Sunderland, Hertha Berlin, and clubs in Russia, but now, such opportunities are rare for local players.”For now even with the agents coming in boys are struggling to meet up to the task so now it is not about the coaches again it is about an individual. So if you say the coach was not well when you go there too go and showcase what you have done,” as aired by Happy FM.”It is not about the coach anymore you can see the difference that you can’t blame the coaches too much but the practical person the principal actor on the field. When a player has more quality you don’t bargain for your salary to be increased when you say I am going they will increase it but because they know you are not performing and the little that will come you will leave.”Because when I was leaving I had Sunderland, I had Hertha Berlin, I had Russia and all those things but the team decides this is the money that we want. So how many players that are leaving to Rwanda and others that have a lot of deals to choose from it is the managers that go in for the deals for them but for us they came for us,”
