Nigerian Afrobeats star Davido has said his greatest fear is not knowing when to step away from music, admitting that watching once-successful public figures lose their prominence is something he finds unsettling.

Speaking in a recent interview, the award-winning singer said he often reflects on the challenges that come with fame and longevity in the entertainment industry.

Davido, whose real name is David Adeleke, said the experience of seeing celebrities fall from grace inspired him to think about the emotional toll of life in the spotlight. He said that if he could build one thing, it would be “a therapy centre for people who were popular and very successful,” describing it as “crazy to be on top of the world and the next moment you are not.”

The singer pointed to football as an example, referencing Portuguese star Cristiano Ronaldo. “Look at my good friend Ronaldo – after everything he’s done for football, they still laughed at him for exiting the World Cup,” Davido said, arguing that even the most accomplished figures continue to face criticism despite their achievements.

Reflecting on his own career, Davido said he hopes to avoid overstaying his time in the industry. “That is my greatest fear,” he said, adding that he has “worked so hard” and prays daily for God to “show me the right time to step back,” so he does not undermine everything he has built.
