Co-founder of Dance With a Purpose (DWP) Academy, Quables, has opened up about the group’s major breakthrough moments in an exclusive interview with GhanaWeekend, highlighting key milestones that have propelled them to international recognition.

According to Quables, one of their biggest moments came when they worked with Beyoncé on her Black Is King album.

He recalled how social media played a crucial role in catching the attention of Beyoncé’s team.

“The very first one was when we worked with Beyoncé on her Black Is King album. At a point, everyone was posting us on social media—Ciara posted us, Alicia Keys posted us, Shaderoom, everybody around the world was posting us. It was like wildfire,” he said.

He revealed that he encouraged one of the dancers, Dancegod, to create a viral video for one of Beyoncé’s songs, believing her team would appreciate it.

“He did it, and the team loved it. They reached out, and that is how it started,” he added.

Quables emphasised the role of social media in DWP Academy’s rise, describing it as their “main tool for promotion.” “It’s like that is where we put our CV. Whatever we put out there is selling us to the world,” he noted.

Another defining moment for the dance group was performing alongside Usher at the GlobalCitizen Festival.

“That was a big one for us because Usher is a global icon and a dancer as well, so it was very big for the dancers,” he said.

He further shared how Usher’s engagement with them after the performance stood out.

“Global Citizen is not a small event; it is a very big event. After the event, he [Usher] came to our changing room and was like, ‘It doesn’t end here. I want this to happen again.’ A lot of artists wouldn’t do that; after their performance, they just leave.”

Beyond their global performances, Quables highlighted the life-changing impact of dance on the members of DWP Academy.

“People’s lives have changed—most of these dancers are taking care of their families now. Most of them own cars, some are building their own houses. It is all through dance,” he said.

He stressed that dance is not just a passion but also a profession, and DWP Academy has found ways to generate income from it.

“We do performances, we make money from that. We promote songs and we make money from that. We work with brands, and we make money from that. We post content, so there are so many streams of income for the dancers. We have just been able to position ourselves well so that income keeps coming in.”

DWP Academy continues to be a force in Ghana’s entertainment industry, using dance as a tool for transformation and global recognition.
