It has emerged that a protracted Chieftaincy dispute in Akyem Ayirebi is the main reason behind a recent attack on Chinese Mining Company JIAXIN by some very well-known locals who disguised themselves as Armed Robbers.
On the evening of February 9, 2024, at approximately 20:30, the Jiaxin Mining Company alerted the police about an ongoing robbery.
The Prime Suspect of that attack according to on-field investigations, was a very popular troublemaker called Kofi Nti aka Kofi Oti pictured here:
The fact remains from field reports by INVESTIGATIVE CHANNEL that there are two factions who intend to install their chiefs on the same day and location.
A High Court ruling order has prohibited the holding of this event of installing new chiefs on the proposed date and location at Akyem Ayirebi.
This has incurred hatred and tensions all over the town hence the masterminding of the attacks on the Chinese Company.
Fifteen suspected robbers, armed with AK47 assault rifles and machetes, infiltrated the company premises, donning masks and military uniforms. They issued commands for everyone to lie down while firing sporadically.
The armed assailants, in search of information about the whereabouts of gold bars, proceeded to loot various rooms, including the Manager’s Room. During the incident, several Chinese individuals were shot and injured, namely Wang Yang Feng (50 years old), Mr. Leo, and Wang Yuan Shin. Prompt emergency medical attention was provided, and they were swiftly transported to Akyem Brenase Health Center and later transferred to New Abirem Government Hospital.
Despite police intervention, the robbers successfully escaped with an unspecified amount of gold and an undisclosed sum of local currency. Four individuals sustained gunshot wounds and were admitted to New Abirem Government Hospital, with two already treated and discharged while the remaining two are still under hospital care.
Furthermore, the perpetrators absconded with three pump-action guns belonging to Jiaxin Mining Company. Spent shells recovered from the scene are aiding ongoing investigations.
The initial response to the incident involved Akyem Oda Divisional Police Commander Rev/ACP S N Adane-Ameyaw (PhD), the Akyem Oda FPU, ESR Commander ACP/Mr. Bossman Ohene Boadi, ASP/Mr Bimah Bigali, ESR Operational Commander, Kyebi FPU, and ESR Crime Scene Team. The ESR Commander, along with his team, directed the deployment of FPU to secure the company premises and implement intelligence-led intensified police patrols 24/7.
The Regional Commander suggested that the CEO of JIAXIN Mining Company officially apply for a Paid Police Guard, a recommendation promptly accepted by the CEO.
