Match Day 2 of the Elite U15 Boys Championship produced thrilling encounters, with Upper East Region edging past Western Region, while Ashanti Region continued their dominance with a hard-fought win over Northern Region.
Upper East Edges Western Region in Tight Contest
In the first afternoon game, Upper East Region secured a 1-0 victory over Western Region. Abdul Rashid Abdulai’s 29th-minute strike proved to be the difference in a closely contested match. Apam Prince Asana, showcasing consistency, was named the MVP for the second time in the tournament, following another stellar performance.
Eastern and Upper West Regions Draw in Reserves Game
In the reserve fixture of the day, Eastern Region and Upper West Region ended their game in a 1-1 draw. Eastern Region, however, managed to clinch a win in the penalty shootout, prevailing 5-4. This match served as an opportunity for the players to gain valuable experience and game time.
Ashanti Region Maintains Winning Run Against Northern Region
In the most anticipated clash of Match Day 2, Ashanti Region defeated Northern Region 2-1 in what could be considered one of the standout matches of the tournament so far. Abraham Owusu and Kelvin Amo Baffoe found the back of the net for Ashanti Region, giving them a two-goal lead. Northern Region’s Sumaila Mohammed managed to pull one back, but it wasn’t enough to prevent Ashanti Region from claiming the win.
With their victory, Ashanti Region remains unbeaten in the tournament, solidifying their position as a strong contender for the championship title.
After an intense round of matches, the teams will take a break on Sunday before returning to the field on Monday for the next set of fixtures.
The Elite U15 Boys Championship is part of the FIFA Talent Development Scheme which aims at providing a platform for young football talents from across Ghana to showcase their skills and continue their development in a competitive environment.
