The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has thrown its full support behind former Premier League manager Chris Hughton, who was recently appointed as the new Black Stars coach.

According to Executive Council member Randy Abbey, the association believes Hughton’s wealth of experience managing Premier League clubs such as Brighton & Hove Albion and Tottenham makes him the ideal candidate to succeed in the role.

Hughton’s tenure as Black Stars coach got off to a strong start with a win and a draw in his first two games, and he has been commended for his commitment to watching local football as he promised during his unveiling.

Speaking about Hughton’s appointment, Abbey said to Citi FM, “I think that he has enormous information and a deeper understanding of the football eco-system of Ghana… And of course, he has the full cooperation of the FA.

We will make sure that we provide everything he wants, together with the government to make his work with us very successful. I am impressed so far, we have started very well and we need to continue.”

Hughton’s early success has put Ghana on the brink of securing qualification for next year’s Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast. Hughton has urged Ghanaians to manage their expectations, emphasizing that the team’s goal is to do well, not necessarily to win the tournament.
