The Ghana League Clubs Association (GHALCA) has rejected any involvement in a plan by its Chairman, Kudjoe Fianoo, to remove the President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku.

The GHALCA executives held a meeting on October 24, 2024, to discuss Fianoo’s unpopular impeachment remarks against the GFA President.

GHALCA is against using the association as a tool to create instability in football management in the country. Fianoo, who has been criticised for his poor leadership, recently announced his plans to gather support for removing the GFA President, citing the Black Stars’ struggles in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers as the main reason.

He shared these intentions in an interview, sparking discontent among GHALCA members who are unhappy with his actions.

In a statement, GHALCA distanced itself from Fianoo’s remarks, noting that while he is entitled to his personal opinions, they should not be seen as representing the association. The association clarified that it is not planning to remove Fianoo from his position because of his comments.

Under Kurt Okraku’s leadership, Ghanaian football has been improving steadily since a difficult period in 2018, and GHALCA believes the focus should be on working together to continue rebuilding the sport.
