Spokesperson for Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen and Deputy Director of Communications for the former Minister for Trade and Industry, Richard Nyamah has disclosed that government appointees who want to declare their support for Mr. Kyerematen are being tormented by some high ranking officials in government.

According to him, this has made it increasingly difficult for some people to declare their support for the candidature of the former Minister.

Speaking in an exclusive interview on Okay FM’s ‘Ade Akye Abia’ morning show, he explained that though some appointees go ahead to declare their support for certain candidates without receiving any threat or form of backlash, but same cannot be said for persons who want to throw their support for Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen.

“What crime has he committed for him to receive such unfair treatment from the party,” he quizzed.

“There is an open contest in the party and I believe that everybody should be allowed to support whoever they feel and believe that can turn the fortunes of the country around when elected to lead the party. No one should be made to feel that every member of the party supports him and that the position of the NPP flagbearership is his birthright,” he said.

He, however, maintained that Mr. Kyerematen has the massive support and endorsement of the grassroot supporters of the party which he believes will help him to win the presidential primaries of the party.

He said Alan Kyerematen has paid his dues to the party and that has the right to a fair contest just like any other potential candidate who so desires to lead the NPP.

“I believe that the party will stand more united if there is a fair contest in the party for the presidential primaries,” Richard Nyamah added.

NPP Sets Date For Presidential, Parliamentary Primaries

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) barring any unforeseen circumstances will be holding its presidential primary on November 4, 2023, to elect a flagbearer for the 2024 general elections.

Opening of nominations will be on 26th May 2023.

A statement signed by Justin Kodua Frimpong, the General Secretary of the party, further “barred the National, Regional, Constituency party executives and MMDCEs from contesting in constituencies where the Party has sitting Members of Parliament”.

“The Party has also approved detailed rules and regulations to govern the conduct of both the presidential and parliamentary primaries which would be made” available to the public in due time.

Meanwhile, the parliamentary primaries will be held in February 2024
