Govt honours Citi FM/TV’s Umaru Sanda, others at National Awards

The Host of Eyewitness News on Citi FM, Umaru Sanda Amadu, was on Tuesday, March 14,2023 honoured by the government of Ghana for his role in the fight against Covid 19.

The celebrated Journalist was honoured by the state at this year’s ‘National Honours And Awards’ ceremony held at the Accra International Conference Centre.

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo presented the proficient broadcaster with a certificate of Presidential Honour for Distinguished Service.

Sanda who is also the host of Face to Face on Citi TV was recognised by the state for being a member of the Technical team that helped in the construction Infectious Disease Center at the Ga East Hospital.

He was the first journalist to report from a COVID-19 treatment centre at the Ga East Hospital where the Infectious Disease Center was later constructed.

The Ghana Infectious Disease Center (GIDC), a 100-bed capacity facility, was the country’s first infectious disease center built with the support of the Ghana COVID-19 Private Sector Fund in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The facility was the country’s major referral point for COVID-19 patients in need of intensive critical care.

Due to the urgent need for an infectious disease center, the hospital was built in a record time of 100 days. Over 700 square meters of water-efficient landscaping was embedded throughout the hospital to provide as pleasant of an environment as possible for patient recovery.

Other awardees in the category included; Felix Kyei Mensah, Safo Appiah Oppong, Kofi Essel Appiah, Fiifi Sam Awotwe, Richard Adei, Samuel Asiedu, Kofi Obeng Ayirebi, Clement k Amorle, Ato Roberts, Ruth Ann Richardson, Benjamin K Larbi, Ayan Agbeyega, Emmanuel Bentil, Franklin Kudornu, and Obed Ampadu Asiamah.

Apart from being honoured  for his role in the fight against Covid 19 by President Akufo-Addo, the celebrated Citi FM and Citi TV’s journalist has also won other awards which include: Radio for Peace Building – Africa award held in Kigali Rwanda for his documentary titled The Fulani Revealed, Road Safety Awards, Ghana’s National Roads Safety Commission, Best SDG Reporter 17th Ghana Journalists Association Awards,  Radio Personality of the Year at the Muslim Achievers Awards in 2017.
