President of the Ghana Union of Traders Association (GUTA), Dr. Jospeh Obeng, has called for the restructuring of the Value Added Tax (VAT), regime to make it fair, equitable, and standardised for easy compliance by traders.
He said the structure of the VAT in its current form discriminates against Ghanaian traders.
Dr. Obeng told GBC News that before the commencement of the compliance and invigilation exercise by GRA, the two parties agreed to suspend the exercise until the VAT regime was streamlined to ensure a level playing field.
But the GRA backtracked on the agreement.
Dr. Obeng expressed support for the stance taken by the Abossey Okai Spare Parts Dealers not to allow GRA officials to sit in their shops daily to ensure compliance with the collection of VAT.
