Black Stars Chris Hughton has arrived in Rabat to lend his support to the technical team of the Black Meteors for the U-23 Africa Cup of Nations, which gets underway on Saturday.
Hughton’s presence in Morocco is to provide assistance and guidance to the Black Meteors as they embark on their quest to secure a spot in the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.
Expressing his pleasure at being present, Hughton said, “It’s a pleasure to be here. My role and responsibility here is to support the players, the head coach, and the technical staff. First and foremost, success lies in being here because there are a lot of good teams that are not here at this competition. So the first mark of success is to be here.”
He continued, “Secondly, we want to make the nation proud. I am sure you will give everything, and this is all the technical staff can ask for from you. The games will be decided by quality, tactical efficiency, scoring goals, and some luck. I am sure you will work as hard as you can to ensure these factors go in your favour.”
Ghana will open their account on Sunday against Congo before facing Morocco and Guinea.
Acknowledging the challenging nature of the matches ahead, Hughton stressed the importance of teamwork and the desire to win. He added, “You are here for the experience, and you are here to win as many games as you can. You are here to make yourselves, the head coach, the technical team, and, importantly, the country proud. I wish you all the best.”
The top two teams from Group A and Group B will progress to the semi-final, with the best three teams securing qualification for Olympic Games.
