Veteran Ghanaian gospel group, Daughters of Glorious Jesus, has expressed concern over the growing number of veteran actors and musicians who turn to the public for financial assistance during old age or periods of ill health.

Speaking in an exclusive interview on Footprint TV, group member Edna Sarpong said it deeply saddens them whenever they see seasoned creatives appealing for financial support after dedicating decades of their lives to their respective professions.

“It breaks our hearts to the core whenever we see our colleagues on television or hear them on radio asking for financial help because of health challenges or other difficulties,” she said.

Edna noted that, by the grace of God and with careful planning, neither the group nor any of its members would have to depend on public appeals for financial support should they stop making music.

“In all humility, respect, and by the grace of God, there is no way any member of Daughters of Glorious Jesus will have to beg for financial support if we stop singing because we have prepared and put things in place while we are still working,” she stated.

According to her, the group’s more than 35-year journey in the music industry has taught them the importance of planning for the future and making wise financial decisions. She added that people close to the group are aware of the measures they have taken over the years to secure their future.

On behalf of the group, Edna encouraged fellow musicians and creatives to prioritize long-term financial planning instead of focusing solely on expensive lifestyles.

“Not everything is about wearing expensive dresses and shoes when you haven’t prepared for unforeseen circumstances,” she emphasized.

Describing her message as a difficult but necessary truth, Edna urged her colleagues to make adequate preparations while they are still active in their careers to avoid hardship later in life. She further stressed that gospel musicians, in particular, should ensure their lives reflect the messages they preach through their songs.

“As a musician, the Word of God and the songs you sing to encourage people must be evident in your life. People will question what the God you preach about has done for you if your life does not reflect it,” she explained.

Edna Sarpong emphasized that while God blesses His children, creatives also have a responsibility to make prudent decisions and put structures in place to secure their future while they are still working.
