Ghanaian urban gospel musician, Scott Evans, has expressed disappointment over the limited representation of gospel artistes in the prestigious Artiste of the Year category at the upcoming Telecel Ghana Music Awards 2026.
Speaking in an exclusive interview on Daybreak Hitz with Doreen Avio and Kwame Dadzie, the singer described it as unfair that only one gospel act Diana Hamilton secured a spot in the topmost category.
According to Scott Evans, while he acknowledges the competitiveness of the category and the calibre of artistes involved, the gospel fraternity deserves broader representation.
“I think it should be fair, at least give us two. I know the competition is tough because the kind of A-list artistes there are huge,” he said.
When asked who else he would have preferred to see nominated, he mentioned Joe Mettle, noting that his absence is due to his decision not to file for nomination this year, as well as Piesie Esther.
Despite his concerns, Scott Evans admitted that the awards board likely follows a defined selection process. He emphasised the need for industry players and fans to understand the criteria used in determining nominees.

He added that gaining insight into these processes would help stakeholders better appreciate why certain decisions are made regarding nominations.
For the 2026 edition of the awards, the Artiste of the Year category features a strong lineup of top-tier Ghanaian acts, including Stonebwoy, Sarkodie, Black Sherif, Wendy Shay, Medikal, and Diana Hamilton, with Diana Hamilton standing as the sole gospel representative among predominantly secular performers.
The Telecel Ghana Music Awards 2026 is scheduled to take place on May 9 in Accra, where industry stakeholders and music lovers will gather to celebrate outstanding achievements in Ghanaian music.
