La Liga has initiated an investigation into an alleged verbal exchange between Real Madrid’s Jude Bellingham and Getafe’s Mason Greenwood during Thursday’s game.
Getafe filed a formal complaint, prompting the league to take action and act on “hard evidence.”
The incident occurred after an encounter where Bellingham tackled Greenwood in Real Madrid’s 2-0 victory. A video clip of the incident quickly gained traction on social media, leading to heightened scrutiny.

The nature of the alleged comment and the recipient remain unclear at this point. In response to Getafe’s formal complaint, La Liga released a statement on Friday. “As per standard procedure in such cases, the La Liga match director has requested an expert lip-reading report to investigate the matter and act based on hard evidence,” part od the statement said
Mason Greenwood, who is on a season-long loan from Manchester United since September, is at the center of the controversy. The 22-year-old forward has faced scrutiny earlier in his career, with Manchester United announcing his departure by mutual agreement. In August, after a six-month internal investigation into his conduct, the club took the decision. Charges against Greenwood, including attempted rape and assault, were dropped in February.
Greenwood, contracted with Manchester United until 2025, has been in good form, scoring six goals in 21 appearances for Getafe this season.
