Renowned Ghanaian filmmaker and Executive Secretary of the National Film Authority (NFA), Kafui Danku, has brushed off a petition seeking her removal, expressing disbelief at its origins and intent.

The petition, posted anonymously on Change.org by a group identifying itself as the “Association of Ghana Creatives,” appeals to President John Dramani Mahama to reconsider the appointments of both Kafui Danku and her Deputy Executive Secretary, actor James Gardiner. The group claims the two lack the competence to lead the Authority.

Reacting to the petition on Joy FM’s Showbiz A-Z, Danku recounted a conversation with her colleague, James, stating that upon learning about it, she called him, and his response was laughter.

“When I saw it, I called James. When I called James, he burst out with a very huge laughter. He said, ‘Kafui, sleep,’ and I laughed,” she shared.

Danku further questioned the credibility of those behind the petition, asserting that she does not believe it originated from professionals within the film industry.

“I want to believe strongly that whoever did that may not be from our fraternity. But there is a name… I believe that whoever did that—if it’s true—must have done it with some really clueless people. A lot of people were surprised that that could even come up. So there are no names. I don’t even think they belong to our fraternity,” she stated.
