After two weeks of reminding us of his versatility as a rapper and singer, Kwesi Arthur drops the video for ‘Pain Interlude’. The song has enjoyed massive air play since its release. And the beautiful music video that comes with it will easily capture the attention of music lovers.
The video was directed by Kwame Koda. The choice of a cinematic black and white lighting for the video shows how deep Kwesi went into the past to turn his memories into an awesome song. Even the video is set in 1995. Imagine!
The video tells the story of a boxer (played by Kwesi of course) who prepares hard for an important fight. With an anxious pregnant partner in the background cheering him up, he enters the boxing ring.
He is knocked down first. But he gets up. He finally knocks his opponent down to win the fight which is evident of a lyric in the song that says;
Class clown get the last laugh
E dey pain them I do what them say I can’t do
What is fascinating is the boxer’s interaction with the press. It takes you back to the TV interviews granted by the boxing great, Muhammad Ali. Without giving too much away, Kwesi’s attempt at mimicking Ali’s mannerisms brings the message of the video to life as he talks about the pain not at the interlude but at the end.
The character of Ali fits perfectly with the song. Few people have been as forthright as him while sharing their thoughts. And maybe that is why Kwesi chose to highlight his pain through such a vivid historical figure.
