La Community Bank Ltd. has donated 100 desks to Justice Nii Amaa Ollennu Memorial Basic School in La to improve teaching and learning and ease classroom congestion.
The donation forms part of the bank’s corporate social responsibility efforts to support education and community development.

Speaking at the presentation ceremony in La, Deputy Chairman of the bank’s Board of Directors, David Emmanuel Annan Odoi, said the donation was driven by compassion and the need to provide children with a conducive environment for learning.
“This is about compassion and the necessity to see our children go to school in a prime environment,” he said.
According to him, the bank stepped in after learning about the challenges facing the school, especially the shortage of desks.

He said the 100 desks are the first phase of support and more assistance could be provided depending on the school’s needs. “We will bring more depending on the needs and requirements of the school,” he noted.
Mr. Odoi said education remains a key part of the bank’s CSR agenda because of its historical ties to the La community. He explained that the school was initiated by the La Township Development Association, also known as La Mansaamo Kpee, while the bank was also founded as a project of the same association.
He said supporting the school would help ensure children in La receive quality education and grow into responsible citizens, further calling on other corporate institutions, non-governmental organisations and individuals to support the school.
He noted that beyond desks, the school urgently needs a bus and other facilities to function effectively.
An English teacher and Administrative Assistant at the school, Emmanuel Odoi Annan, described the donation as a great relief.
He said the school had been facing a severe shortage of desks, forcing as many as three pupils to sit on one dual desk. “It was so pathetic that sometimes you see three students sitting on one dual desk. The shortage had affected teaching and learning because pupils struggled to write comfortably. This donation would now improve seating arrangements and enhance academic work,” he elaborated.

Mr. Annan appealed to other corporate bodies to assist the school, noting that urgent needs include a school bus, a borehole, sporting equipment, and recreational facilities.
The event brought together officials of the bank, school authorities and members of the community.
