Nigeria is mourning the loss of veteran Nollywood actor and producer Solomon Akiyesi, whose death was confirmed on Monday.
The President of the Actors Guild of Nigeria, Abubakar Yakubu, said the actor died in his sleep on Sunday in Abuja.
Yakubu stated that Akiyesi “slept and did not wake up”, adding that his remains have been deposited in a morgue in the capital while the guild awaits further details from his family. The circumstances surrounding his death are yet to be fully disclosed.

Akiyesi, who began his acting career in the late 1990s, featured in more than 100 films and was known for roles in productions such as Marry Who You Love, Deadly Affair and Desperate Ladies. Tributes have continued to pour in across social media, as colleagues and fans remember his contribution to Nigeria’s film industry.
