Nigerian filmmaker Pascal Amanfo has shared an emotional message directed at actors and entertainers following the passing of Ghanaian actress Beverly Afaglo Baah.
In a social media post on May 25, Pascal reflected on the hidden struggles many entertainers go through despite the glamorous image often portrayed to the public.
“The world sees celebrities but they don’t know all is not as it seems! They don’t know your struggles, your pain, your battles!” part of his post read.
According to the filmmaker, many entertainers silently deal with financial difficulties, loneliness, sickness, sadness, depression, and uncertainty while trying to meet society’s expectations.
“They judge your clothes and cars but they don’t know your fears and disappointments! You are forced to live to their expectations and when you don’t, they mock you for being below the standard,” he wrote.
The movie director further stated that many entertainers are often valued only based on their latest successful project, adding that the pressure can sometimes lead people to seek validation from others and gradually lose themselves.
He also reflected on how society reacts after the death of public figures, suggesting that many people suddenly show love and admiration only when the person is no more.
“Dear Entertainer all you will become when you are no more are headlines and traffic on blogs! People who have never wished you a happy birthday will write eulogies!” he added.
The filmmaker concluded by encouraging entertainers to stay close to genuine friends and family who support them beyond fame, while also reminding them to live for themselves and God despite their imperfections and challenges.
