In the past weeks, Sudan has been gripped by a deadly conflict between the Sudanese Armed Forces and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces. The Sudanese capital Khartoum, has been the epicentre of clashes, with civilians being most affected.
The Ministry has reiterated its commitment to evacuate all willing Ghanaian nationals in Sudan to safety to neighbouring countries, such as Ethiopia and Egypt.
Meanwhile, BBC reports that fighting has intensified in Sudan’s capital, Khartoum, shattering the latest ceasefire aimed at allowing people to flee to safety. Today, the army said it is attacking the city from all directions, with air strikes and heavy artillery, to flush out its paramilitary rivals. The latest truce was due to end late on Sunday.
Millions of people remain trapped in the capital, where food is running short.
For all the army’s superior firepower, the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) are highly mobile and more suited to urban warfare.
Meanwhile, there are chaotic scenes in Port Sudan where people are desperate to board ships, some of which are heading to Saudi Arabia and Yemen.
