The National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT) says it will not hesitate to embark on series of actions in the coming days to demand that the Ghana Education Service (GES) reinstates the heads of Ahantaman and Saint Roses Senior High schools without delay.
According to NAGRAT, the Ghana Education Service failed to conduct an effective investigation into the matter leading to their interdiction.
The GES interdicted the heads for allegedly authorizing the collection of some monies from parents whose wards are students at their respective schools.
President of NAGRAT, Angel Carbonu said this when he addressed a news conference in Accra on October 3.
“If the Management of the Ghana Education Service and the Ministry of Education had taken their time to do a thorough investigation into the situations, they will realize that the authorization for the collection of monies, if that is the case any way, will not have come from the heads of the school.”
“… and if they had interrogated the parent teacher executives, they would have told them about the purpose for the collection of the monies”
“As we speak, a lot of heads of institutions have been embarrassed in the public domain when they found out these heads of institutions have misconducted themselves. There is now the difficulty in whitewashing the embarrassment that has been caused to these people”.
“Heading senior high school today is one of the most difficult jobs because the resources are highly inadequate and yet the head of school, the management of the school, the teachers of the school will have to keep a semblance of normalcy in the running and administration of the schools,” Mr Carbonu said.
He stressed the need for the GES to reverse the interdiction, “We are by this once again calling on the Ghana Education Service and the Ministry of Education to immediately lift the interdiction, … to take its time and interrogate the issues in a more sober manner talk to everybody involved before coming out with such announcement”.
The NAGRAT President noted that, “It will be an act of irresponsibility for anyone to allow this to cascade into industrial action, however if we know that our members have done nothing wrong, and they have been embarrassed and interdicted we don’t have a choice than to use any means available to us to defend and get them exonerated”.
