Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh, running mate to the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer, has criticized the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for its “reset” slogan, claiming it threatens to reverse Ghana’s development progress.
Speaking at a campaign rally in Toase, Atwima Nwabiagya Constituency, Dr Prempeh argued that the NDC’s proposed reset would mean a return to failed policies, including the cancellation of the free Senior High School (SHS) initiative and a resurgence of the power crisis known locally as “Dumsor.”
He recalled the severe power outages experienced during the NDC administration under former President John Mahama, which he described as a period marked by economic hardship and business failures.
Dr. Prempeh warned that re-electing John Mahama and the NDC could bring back these troubling conditions.
“Under former President John Mahama, Ghana faced four years of persistent power outages, which we refer to as ‘Dumsor.‘
This was due to total mismanagement and poor leadership. We cannot afford to revert to those dark times,“ Dr. Prempeh said.
He emphasized the strides the current NPP government made since taking office in 2017, particularly in resolving the power crisis and implementing policies to stabilize the energy sector.
Dr. Prempeh also highlighted the success of the free SHS policy, which he claimed has provided educational opportunities for many Ghanaian youth.
The NPP running mate expressed concern that the NDC, if elected, might abolish the free SHS program, undermining the progress made in education.
He urged voters to support Dr Mahamudu Bawumia and the NPP in safeguarding the free SHS policy and preventing a return to power outages.
Dr. Prempeh concluded his address by calling for support for the NPP and expressing confidence in the party’s ability to “break the 8“ and continue Ghana’s development under the current administration.
